Soup’s a cooking. (Cream of mushroom soup on a cold morning mmmm.)
And today I start a new job.
It’s weird to start something new even if it’s similar to the old after you’ve done the same thing and had the same routine for almost a decade.
But new things, new people, that’s what awaits.
So today I start a week long trial period where I have to knock the socks off the person who’s taking a chance on me. I don’t think I’ll have too hard a time doing that but we’ll see what the situation holds as each person has different expectations.
Strangely it feels like I’m a kid again starting out on my first real tech job. That’s both good and bad. I hope I don’t make some of the mistakes I made my first time out in the field. :-)
In other news I got a battery for the discount roomba I bought a while back and just in the short time of the factory charge it seemed to work fine. Right now it’s on the charger for a 72 hour run of the initial charge just to be safe. The NIMH battery pack takes a long time to charge if the roomba has been off the charger for a long time as this one had been. So when I get home form work today I should be able to start a cleaning cycle with it and see how it does. Due to the shape of our house I fully expect to have to buy a couple of the virtual wall modules to keep it from getting lost in the twists and turns. I have already ordered the scheduling remote as of a couple days ago so that I can set it up so it will cycle while we’re all out of the house which is a good thing. I’m hoping it at least keeps the living room and kitchen clean.
Funny thing is that I would have never considered owning one of these until they became cheap on the second hand market. You can cobble together a used working roomba discovery model for under the complete price of a new one and as long as you take time to learn how to care for it you can get a long life out of them. If money permits I might end up owning two.
Now if only the scooba floor scrubbing models were available cheaply. :-(
The plague seems all but gone from our household - still some coughing but that’s minor. So hopefully we should be good to go here for the next month or so without getting sick. I’m hoping at least. I refuse to get the H1N1 shot. It says a lot about a vaccination when numerous medical people are refusing to take it. Don’t take my word on it check that one out on your own as you will.
My wife has started drinking coffee on a semi-regular basis. WTF? She never used to like coffee unless it was a mocha and now she drinks coffee with sugar and creamer in it. Huh. Times change I guess. (That reminds me that I have to take my coffee cup to work with me today.)
Got a camera on each door of the house finally. I feel a little safer with those both in place now. Now I just need to get one in the basement. (Working on that. I ordered another of the Linksys WVC54GCA model cameras this week to replace the back door camera so that camera can go downstairs. That means both upstairs camera will do audio and mpeg4 format - something my iPhone can read when the camera mails video to me. The non-audio model only produces crappy .asf format files.)
We’re short on cash this week but we’re doing okay as my wife gets paid the end of this week. Not sure if I will or not but we’ll see. He may hold back a week as is customary.
Well...the soup is done and so am I for the moment.
