So today is the day of decay. For those of you that are fans of scans_daily and Super Dictionary I am now as many years old as the number of cakes Lex Luthor stole.

And that’s horrible.

Don’t have anything planned for my birthday and hopefully I won’t come bak from lunch to find my cube decorated. But if it happens I’ll accept it gracefully as usual.

I just want to go home and decay in piece... ;-)

(Not cut because dammit I only turn this old once.)

So what’s for the next 40 years? I want to take over the world one mad scientist invention at a time.

Way back when I was hoping to celebrate this particular birthday on the moon, then later it became in an island paradise, then it became in my own mountain halls of stone, then it became a hidden home in the woods, finally it just became a quiet place apart.

None of which is where I am now - at lunch during the workday.

I have to admit it somewhere so it might as well be here - I’m not happy with where my life has gone so far. I love my family (for the most part), my wife, my child. I wouldn’t change any of that.

But I see so many people younger than me leading so much more active and exciting lives.

But I also understand that the universe often puts people where they are needed. And on some level that makes it okay.

I’m not going to wish for excitement because the universe perversely loves to dole that out in completely unexpected ways...and right now more of the unexpected would be an issue. ;-)

I think I’ve said it before but the universe gives us not just we need but what we want as well. The problem is that most people don’t _know_ what they truly want. Myself included on some level.

Things that I want right now...

I want the garage and the house to be organized.

I want the economy to be better.

I want to have the room and materials to set up my starter plants for this season in the garage.

I want the time and materials to brew my own beer.

I want the time and materials to fix my truck/seond bike.

I want the time to spend on my family.

I want the time to spend on myself and my projects.

I want the weight to be gone of my own action.

I’m working on all these and more but it takes time to form the request of the universe properly so there are no serious side-effects.

For instance if I form the request for the weight to be gone but don’t specify of my own action then the universe might respond by giving me cancer or some other serious disease that would cause me to lose weight.

If I form the request for the time to spend on my family and myself then the universe might respond by me being laid off.

See what I mean?

People can get what they want from the universe they just know how to ask.

Sometimes asking involves forming the request using hard work, sometimes words alone suffice, but if you’re not careful the response you get will not be the answer you want or expect.

As for me? It’s going to take me a lifetime to get all the things I want from the universe.

But the same goes for all of you too. ;-)

A good policy to live by.

Laughing at the darkness puts you more at ease no matter which side of the coin you’re on. If you’re more light than dark then laughing at it makes you stronger because you’re filling the darkness with light. If you’re more dark than light it makes you stronger because you’re confident that the darkness can’t harm you. Either way it works out.

I try and laugh at a lot of things now. I didn’t used to and I still don’t do it enough. But I find humor in a lot more of the universe than I have in the past.

Laughter, orgone generators, singing gardens... )

So in the midst of the Snowpocalypse that has recently thrust itself upon us thoughts of the future abound. It’s almost as if the white expanse of snow wipes all thoughts of anything from the mind leaving a feeling of peace an tranquility upon the brow.

Until you have to dig yourself out of the house that is. ;-)

Truthfully there’s many things I could go on about during this season. I could rant about the massive Giftmas going on. I could rant about how the Catholic church changed the date of Christ’s birth to coincide with a pagan winter festival to gain more converts. I could rant about the last gasps of the previous political regime before they get replaced.

But would that be worthwhile? No. No it wouldn’t.

The thing is this - ranting about those things have their time and place but not right now. Right now is the time to focus on being with friends and family and what good things the coming spring will bring.

Winter Solstice is the time when the light that was extinguished by the cold night flares bright again and starts to grow. Since the solstice has passed it’s time to help bring the light back in any way we can.

And that’s a worthy goal if ever I saw one because light is what is needed right now.

We need the light of the heart that comes with the laughter of children at play and of good friends. We also need the bright shining light of those that will not bend and will not yield when the world is trying to beat them down. We need all sorts of light. Even the flickering waning light of those that have darkened themselves through their own hand helps define the choice between light and darkness.

The problem is that we don’t ever spend enough time helping people brighten what light they have and spend far too much time dampening the lights of others.

When someone thinks differently that light shines brightly. Until we decide otherwise.

To dampen the light in someone else you have to use the darkness within you. That means that when you dampen the light in someone else you dampen it in yourself.

Do you think it’s worth a piece of yourself to keep that other person down? Your light’s flickering my friend and that is so sad.

Take the time to help others shine. Encourage those who think differently and believe differently. It’s not wrong to be different. It is wrong to believe that everyone must be the same. It won’t be easy but that’s what you have to do because the only way to help someone else shine is to use the light within you. Want to take a guess as to what that does to you? ;-)

So take the time to help someone else. Listen to someone talk about something they’re passionate about. Talk to someone who’s alone. Sing for someone who has no one else to listen to. Heck even shoveling someone’s driveway or walk so they don’t have to helps. There are a million ways to do this and anybody smart enough to read this is smart enough to figure out a way to help someone else.

I could tell you that it doesn’t take much effort to help but that would be untrue. Sometimes it can be the hardest thing in the world to do. But most of the time the good things in life are worth the effort.

But by doing that you make the universe a brighter place. And I think when it all comes down to it the universe being brighter is a good thing even for those that believe that darkness is the path they want to follow because the brighter the universe is the better defined the shadows are. You can’t have a universe without shadows but if your light, and the lights of others, shine brightly and can not be extinguished then why would the shadows matter?

Shine brightly my friends and help others to shine as well. I will do the same.
